Lunch @ Lenas

28 Aug

This is not supposed to be a Food Blog but I don’t know why it is starting to look like one xD Probably its just me with good food recently. Oh and If you’re wondering why my ‘reviews’ are always good and (so far) not bad, this is because I pick my places really carefully because I wouldn’t want to end up wasting money on food that I’ll probably cook better than them at home. I really do mean what I say. If you guys would want to read a bad food review, do drop me a comment and I would gladly share my horrible experience at The Ship @ NEX when I have the time. Anyway, here’s another place to visit when your palate is feeling a bit more Atas but your legs are feeling lazy (relevant to those staying at Hougang)

Lenas is a modern American Italian Restaurant under Ministry Of Food. You can’t go wrong with food under MOF.

Went to the Hougang Mall (HGM) outlet since I just happened to think of it today because my Dad didn’t let me cook at home and insisted that we get Lunch outside. I always walk pass the area but never had the chance to try it so today is the day. Probably a good chance since my Dad would be paying //beams//.  For those interested, the Restaurant is located on the Second floor of HGM where Starbucks, Pizza Hut and all the other food places are clustered together.

This would probably be more of a Recommendation rather than a Food Review ( I hope).

CYMERA_20130828_145619Random (fake) mini flower pot at our table ledge

First impressions are always important to me, especially when it comes to diners. I think their attitude would really make a difference to my night (good or bad) and I feel that I should receive good service from the staff especially if the joint is nowhere close to cheap. The higher your food prices, the more I expect. The staff of Lenas was friendly and polite and they provided good service (at least for the one serving us) so yay!  Quiet and Relaxing atmosphere. Wasn’t crowded when I went.

Their menu has quite a lot of variety and variation. They even have Pancakes! Haha I don’t know why I’m so amused by that. Probably because I didn’t expect it to be available on the menu. I ordered Mixed Mushroom Cream Pasta with an additional Egg yolk while my Dad ordered Smoked Duck Pasta, Aglio Olio base. My dish can be found under their vegetarian pasta menu. YES IT IS VEGETARIAN-FRIENDLY! I had a hard time choosing what to eat okay? Mmmm the cream sauce was a tad to liquidy but it didn’t dilute the sauce. Probably too much milk or something. However, I really liked how the taste of the Mushroom really came out. The whole dish really made you focus on the Mushroom taste, even the sauce had the mushroom taste (I think I’m stating the obvious) It may seem like a simple dish but I think that it was really well prepared compared to other places where the dish doesn’t really come as one. Oh and I recommend adding the egg for extra flavour. I feel that it did enhanced the flavour a little.

Dad’s Smoked Duck Pasta was really good as well. The Agli Olio wasn’t too oily and the spiciness tasted pleasant (different from the Aglio Olio pasta you can find at Pizza Hut) It went well with the smoked duck which was tender. I’m not an expert with smoked ducks and I’m lazy to ask my Dad for comments so we shall just conclude that it was well cooked overall since my Dad seemed to enjoy it very much. Oh! We made both our Mains into a meal which was kinda worth it. Drinks (iced tea or coffee) , a Small Salad & Ice Cream. The Ice Cream really reminded me of the Mr Softee one sold at 7-11 long ago. Really something sweet to end the meal ^^ My Dad also ordered a Parma Ham Pizza which was similar to the kind of pizza Skinny Pizza offers (if you know what I’m talking about…) and it tasted good. The crust was thin and crispy, cheese was well, cheese but just enough but I would prefer more. But then again, when can cheese ever be enough? I think it is really difficult to find a place that is not crazily expensive which serves genuine Parma ham or Prosciutto so both of us (my Dad especially) was really happy to see the real thing on our plate.

Prices are quite reasonable for the standard of food you get. The Total bill was $54.97 ($46.70 without GST) Recommended especially if you’re looking for a nice yet convenient restaurant around Hougang Area. You can try their other outlets around Singapore as well. For those staying at Serangoon, there is one at NEX. Unfortunately it isn’t Halal (what food there is halal besides the fast food joints anyway?) therefore I can’t bring my Best Friend there for a meal. Ah bummer…

I’ll probably go back to try their steaks, ribs or lamb chops soon.

With Passion & Ability

Just wanted to share something I found on the net. I really think this is just… wow. The techniques, the entertainment factor and showmanship. Whether or not they are professionals doesn’t matter to me.

Regardless, enjoy the video.

Foreign Bodies @ Gardens By The Bay

26 Aug

Photo Credits to Fbodz President, Tommy

Yesterday was finally the day. If you guys were wondering who were the group of dope dancers performing at  Gardens By The Bay (GBTB) last night, Foreign Bodies is their name! FBodz performed at SuperTree Grove as part of the ‘August Garden Series’

So, I met up with Hazwan & Hui Xian for dinner at Pizza Hut & Starbucks before heading over to GBTB to support the Seniors. We were supposed to meet up with the rest of 13th Gen first before heading to the main area but we were slightly late so… yea. It was really funny how we were all chill and all, looking for the seniors till they came walking out from their holding area because our reaction was all the same. Drastic change though. Suddenly every junior felt intimidated and went all quiet. Haha! Typical reaction luh honestly ><

Was super excited to watch the performance after seeing bits and pieces of their items during their practices in school.

Finally at around 7PM, the performance finally begun! I think the performance attracted alot of attention there as many people crowded around to watch and many cheered loudly (not just us okay) for them as well. The performance kicked off with a good start. First up we had Larry & Leon’s Hip Hop item.

Looking fierce eh? (click to enlarge pictures because they’re small)

larry hip hop

Hmmm I think the choreo was really good, performance too~ However, (i’m so sorry, dont kill me T_T) I felt like that in-the-air stunt was not necessary but that’s just my opinion. I felt that the item was already good enough and could do without it but that doesn’t mean the stunt wasn’t cool. IT AS COOL OKAY BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO DOOOOOOOOO.

The next performance really brought it up. Choreographed by Amalina & Zhi Qiang, we have…. /wait for it/.. REGGAE DANCEHALL ❤ *woots* DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE REGGAE DANCEHALL?! Totally loved it~ Everyone was burning the stage *_* Joining this is probably my first goal after becoming a senior next year.

1234386_10200310609228848_1510374020_nIt was actually two choreographies in one (if you haven’t already guessed it from the music) First was a new choreo and the second one was from NYP’s 2013 Club Crawl ^^ Both are equally loved and ouhhh Dancehall is damn sexy okay and I honestly need to train more on my Isolation. After seeing Zowell’s , I think mine is just bad.

Hehe Xin Yi~~

Dancehall was followed by Ruzaini’s Swag Item. Fun Fact: ALL of the 12th Gen ICs ( Xin Yi, Di Di, Zuraida & Zhi Qiang) are in that item. Love Love Love this Item as well~ //BOOM BOOM SHAKE SHAKE DA BOOM!// This Item will be performed during Dance Synergy next week as well. Crew Mate Xin Yi had a small solo part there yo~~ (SWAG cropped top Girl). Another Genre I would love to try/take when I become a Senior in FBodz. Lots and lots of control needed ><

1150279_10200310626349276_1569064251_n1239492_10200310620829138_1731832959_n   1230074_10200310981358151_393508993_n

Next, SPECIAL ITEM! Combined Popping-Locking Item. I think it was really well done especially when they made use of the pairings and I really love the song Treasure. If you like funk music or funk styles, you should probably watch this one. Hehe~ Actually I don’t think I need to express how much I love this Item as well because I think I just loved all the items equally (but slightly more for the Dancehall, Swag & lyrical Items)

NEXT TIME IS ALSO SPECIAL OKAY. It was the Item I was looking forward to the most that night. Girl’s Styling (or is this girl’s hip hop?) …

1239041_10200310656910040_2131857171_nBAD, BAD, BAD BITCH!~ Was it the best performance that night? I think so man. I heard that the Dancers for this Item was hand picked by the Choreographer, Anna. Please prepare tissue in case you nose bleeds. I really would like to try a choreography like this but but but.. I don’t think I can do it as well as them… and pulling it off would be… So I really respect dancers who can really do sexy well… As well as Lyrical but that’s another story.

1184878_10200311041159646_157121830_nOUH! Okay this is another Girl’s Style Choreo done by Naz & Inah. Different Kind of Sexy. YAY NAZ & INAH! hehe~

Then it’s Khair (Dope senior, mad respect for him) & Daniel’s Hip Hop Item! I really like their style though. Mainly made up of Grand Seniors rather than 12Gen seniors BUT there are A FEW of them inside. Eh but DOPE LA BODOH!

During the Break they had a special short (freestyle) performance by Rory and Mikeh. Both were dope /as expected/ for both the timeslots. Okay so they actually performed twice because there were two slots so… yea. For the First ‘guest’ from the Audience, we had Justin AKA Jin (LION CITY LOCKER!) to learn abit of Popping from the both of them. One thing you should know, fbodz peeps are real entertainers and not just by dancers. Haha Jin played along in learning and being a ‘noob’ and Mikeh and Rory giving a rather exaggerated reaction but his true ability came out when we was asked to freestyle. It should be available on YouTube if I’m not wrong. Will post it up if I can find it 🙂  The 2nd guest (as in 2nd segment’s guest) was none other than… eh Sorry I forgot his name and if i’m not wrong his name is NOT JAKE as said in the video (will try to find it). The video explains it all uh. Actually you can try looking for the video on their YT channel (link below)

Isaac & Zuraidi’s LYRICAL! I don’t know why but for both the starting, the wrong song was played and Isaac being the joker he is started dancing to the song for the fun of it during the Second performance. Ah well, dancers 😉 I really think this Lyrical choreo was well done. YAY Isaac! ^^

Hmm next was KPOP. I think it’s really rare to see Foreign Bodies doing KPOP for a performance. Anyway they did After School’s Because Of You, which I think the Majority did super well because OMG the feel *_* & also Didi & Khair’s starting was <3, and also DMTN’s ER.

RAIZAN’S SWAG ITEM. Actually I’m not sure whether it’s Raizan’s but I think it is. HOLY SHIT I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS ITEM OKAY. Many of my batch mates mistook it for lyrical (yes, I can see why because I made the same mistake before) but it is actually Swag Item. The more chill more groovy swag compared to the one in Segment 1. I think its refreshing to see chill swag item because you don’t get to see it often, especially if its a damn good one.

Up next, Guy’s Lyrical.  JT’s Suit & Tie choreographed by Kai Jie. I think it was really nice to watch and the boys were really charming on stage~ But… idk why the right side looks a little empty. Choreographer is the super tall guy in the middle for the most of the choreography. (Do not refer to picture, haha)

Up next, Girl’s Styling again. Haha I think this one was supposed to be abit more bimbo? But I really enjoyed watching it as well. Wlao why so sexy sia… Jealous because I can’t dance until that standard. /cries/ the second song they did was the senior (alumni) girls item for club crawl 2013 but this item has seniors inside as well of course.

Okay, the next one is like a total nose bleed okay. STREET JAZZ YO! I swear this is fucking kinky okay and I already love the song (pick me up & thrown me down~) from some time back so… doesn’t help it gets stuck in my head. Honestly the choreographer (Ponytail, bra-let and tights with studded choker) was too fucking hot/sexy that I feel that it should be rated. HOW DO THE PARENTS OF THOSE LITTLE KIDS LET THEIR KIDS WATCH THAT?! Holy shit but that was damn good I cannot…. /cries/ I really love the Street Jazz Choreo…

Hmm Finale, haha what’s new? Just everyone having fun! 🙂

OH YEA HOR~ There’s no Bboy for this round’s performance…. 😦 Oh well~

I stayed for both the time slots because I couldn’t get enough of it. I think I’m having withdrawals… T_T

You can check out the the performance videos (Seg 1 & 2) on their (our?) page @ or on their Youtube Channel

Honestly many people said that the video didn’t them justice but oh well.

Just a quick intro, Foreign Bodies, founded is 1994, is a street dance (hiphop) dance club of Nanyang Polytechnic. To know more about Foreign Bodies, CHECK OUT FBODZ.COM (again!)

Once again, FOREIGN BODIES – SCHOOL OF GROOVE, rocking the stage EVERY TIME ❤

Officially 18

22 Aug

CYMERA_20130821_123232So here I am, after spending my birthday morning at home before I head to school for Self Practice. Well, I’m finally turning 18 today and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. Haha! Anyway, that was me yesterday ^^

Apparently I’ve been receiving long texts, short texts, facebook wishes and weird birthday voice messages (Thank you Weiting <3) since I woke up.

Hmmm the Fbodz peeps were suppose to meet at like what? 2:30PM? but i reached school around 3 and only Daphne & Justin was there lying down at the studio. Gee~

Hui Xian was supposed to meet me but she was running late. To my surprise she actually went down to Twelve Cupcakes and bought me TWO of them as my birthday ‘cake’

AWWWWWW~ Haha I did not expect that at all and I did not suspect anything. Wow.. I just be like, not expecting anything from anyone man xD

Anyway they sang a birthday song for me (hahahahaha so cute) and yea. The rest wished me as they came… which they didn’t start doing so until HE walked passed and wished me. (Argh~ Dying of happiness) ><

Apparently another surprise was waiting for me but I just didn’t notice any of the preparations. Hints were like ICs (ZQ) looking down on the juniors from above and seniors walking pass and what not. I did not know that few of them were distractions… For once I’m more blur than Xin Yi 😀

So anyway Hazwan asked me to accompany him go buy drinks and makan with XY or something so I just went and Xin Yi was there sitting at the table. When we came back, Wei Ting who came ALLLLLLLLLL the way from RGS jumped out with the cake.

Whenever our crew celebrates a birthday, we ALWAYS go to polar and buy the exact same cake, just with different designs. Love that cake anyway.

Jia Shu overshot his timing and came late…. See la bboy some more… But they sang like 3 times or something in the canteen which was embarassing…. ><

Afterwards… then went, ” I hope you’re hungry because…” and pulled out two boxes of Pizzas.

I would like to thank everyone who has wished me and celebrated with me. It is the first time that 2 groups of people has celebrated my birthday for me and surprsingly, all are from dance. Camolahsia, Hui Xian & 13th Gen and AxE Family.

I love you guys ❤

Saveur @ Purvis Street

21 Aug

206828_101673976587768_101667346588431_11127_6893037_nSo a group of us went out on an ‘Atas‘ outing together to celebrate post-Sophia’s birthday & my Pre-birthday with Lunch at Saveur.Hazwan, my bestie will forever be present and the other 3 were these awesome trio I met from Dance.

20130821_123139( Wanying, Sophia & Julyn )

Saveur opens at 12PM for lunch and its probably best for you to come slightly earlier as there would probably be a queue. Yep, they are THAT popular. I bet some of you have probably heard of them on other popular food blogs in SG.

The fastest way to get there is by alighting at Bugis and walking towards Inter-Continental Hotel. Stand at the road facing the National library. After Crossing, walk to the left side of the Library and walk along that stretch. DO LOOK OUT if not you’ll be walking to the wrong way and may even end up at Selegie Road ( which we did)

The Bistro ‘s pretty small so don’t expect a luxury of space while dining however, the ambience was rather cosy and not overly lit. We got a seat near the kitchen which was cool because Saveur has an Open (or semi-open, im not too sure) kitchen concept.

Now, FOOD.

For Starters, we ordered two Mushroom Cappuccinos ($4.90 each) to share. These are actually Mushroom Soup that is served to look like your everyday Cuppas. Bonus points to the creativity. Everyone loved it. Creamy and solid and more mushroom than anything else. The cream wasn’t too much and no other ingredient overpowered the rich mushroom taste. I honestly cannot imagine the amount of mushrooms that goes into the soup. Though the portion is small (french food, duh) the soup texture and richness made up for it. Tasted super Atas okay.

Next thing on the list was Saveur’s Pasta & Chilled Crab Meat Pasta, both of which were equally heavenly.  The pasta were cooked well, all ingredients were fresh and everything went well together. Seasonings were just right, not too overpowering, neither was it too bland. The Saveur’s Pasta was more popular with my friends though they enjoyed both. Honestly I was very tempted to order another plate but… another time perhaps. Honestly their description is as good as it tastes, maybe even better so I’ll probably not spoil it for you but these two are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED when you visit Saveur. One more thing, I really really REALLY like the plating for the starters. Honestly I feel that they make a difference because rarely do you see pasta served this way, all rolled up and believe me, rolling ’em up ain’t as easy as it seems.

We, excluding Haz, got ourselves each a Main which we ended up with Two Chicken ( Julyn & Mine) & Two Duck mains (Sophia & Wan Ying).

The Duck Confit ($10.90) was really good, though small.  I went to look up the cooking method used out of curiosity and just to share it with those who don’t know as well,  Confit (French, pronounced [kɔ̃fi] or in English “con-fee”) is a generic term for various kinds of food that have been immersed in oil (never to exceed 185°F) or sugar water. Sealed and stored in a cool, dark place, confit can last for several months. Confit is one of the oldest ways to preserve food and is a speciality of southwestern France.

Confit of  duck (confit de canard) are usually prepared from the legs of the bird. The meat is salted and seasoned with herbs, and slowly cooked submerged in its own rendered fat, in which it is then preserved by allowing it to cool and storing it in the fat. Turkey and pork may be treated similarly. Meat confits are a specialty of the southwest of France (Toulouse, Dordogne, etc.) and are used in dishes such as cassoulet. Confit preparations originated as a means of preserving meats without refrigeration.

The meat of the duck was tender while the skin was thin and crispy. The taste wasn’t too salty and it went well with the heavenly mash potato at the bottom. The mash alone was perfect. Honestly the mash potato really surprised me as it was not the usual kind I ate. Instead it was thick and smooth, and somewhat buttery and creamy at the same time and hmmm I don’t really know how to describe it but it was simply delectable, even on its own. The mushrooms at the side were cooked just right and I really loved the taste. I wanted more!! The Orange at the side were really really sweet. Each and every part of the wish was delicious on its own but together it tasted even better.

The Chicken Roulade ($9.90) ordered by Sophia & Wan Ying looked smaller than our already small Duck Confit however they told us that it was really filling because of the rich and creamy basmati rice.

Overview of our desserts (without Hazwan’s Pistachio though)

We ordered almost everything on the dessert Menu except for the Strawberries & Cream and Salted Caramel Lava Cake. Honestly I should have ordered Strawberries & Cream instead of Texture of Citrus because Rose Meringue T_T

Desserts in Order: Coffee Creme Brulee -6.9- , Cookies & Milk -9.9- , Chocolate & Hazelnut -7.9- , Pistachio Panna Cotta -6.9-

CYMERA_20130821_131340 CYMERA_20130821_131511

Finally my own snapback ❤ Bought it at Bugis Street with the rest and our theme was Camo (which explains our WhatsApp Group #CamoLahSia) I think they were kind of pretty and this one actually fit me O_O plus it was on sale… Like 2 for god knows how much therefore we decided to buy it as a group… And we needed it for Dance Synergy Performance as well.

After a Good Meal & Shopping was of course, Karaoke. Anyway we had fun but we had another round of food in the karaoke lounge /teehee/ and yep that’s out it.

Overall a day well spent with the gang and I would definitely go back to Saveur to try out the other items (or even the same ones) in the near future.

I’m probably dropping by Dunkin Doughnut on the way to Dance prac tomorrow.
Needs to satisfy cravings…

Photoshop Edit Challenge One

17 Aug

Okay guys I’m Back! So for those who don’t know what this post is about, refer to the previous post [Dance synergy vetting 2 & random Photoshop challenge]

So here is what I started with…

And here is what I ended up with.

save the last dance for me

Okay it’s really not that good… sigh~  It’s been long since I’ve last touched Photoshop and obviously, my skills have dropped. Delayed due to bad internet connection, AGAIN and therefore went to bathe before posting this up 😦

Ever since I’ve started my Journey as a Dancer, I’ve always dreamt of having / being able to do a couple dance with my future partner. Probably why I kinda have a thing for dancer boyfriends (though I don’t have one…) Honestly, I think its (almost) every dancers dream to have a couple dance with their other half regardless on whether their boyfriend/girlfriend are dancers as well. Regardless of dance genre, I really hope to be able to perform one in the near future whether or not that person is Boyfriend/love interest. I think it’s really beautiful to watch. Nothing beats people dancing in harmony ❤
