So While on my trip in Korea, I’ve found some very interesting eateries which are worth going. Here is one rather popular and unique Restaurant, MIES Container Restaurant. I visited the one at Hongdae (Hongik Univ. Station) and not surprisingly, the eatery is located near the  right side of the University (if you are facing the university) & in the same street hidden behind some cafes.

Although our first Visit was a treat (see Crazy Adventures In Korea [ Day 6 ] ) , The price however was reasonable enough. Your typical cafe prices from KRW 10 – KRW 14.5 (on average) with relatively large portions.  Not knowing, we went to order 3 different dishes which consisted of Salad Pasta, Garlic Bacon Sweet Chilli Pan & Bacon Cream Pasta. (** Note that last 2 dishes were only consumed by Reeve & I). Every single dish was delicious but we learnt why the salad pasta was usually ordered to be shared by everyone ><

HUUUUUUUUGE BOWL, PEOPLE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

The veggies were fresh but the onion taste was overwhelming. It is alright unless you really don’t like onions… But the pasta texture was perfect. The Pans were actually pan pizzas which uses spoons to dig ’em up. Reeve ordered that and it came with MAPLE SYRUP.

It sounded weird till we tried it and holy cow! It was heaven.  The cream pasta was ordered by me, it was really really good and the cream had a slight sweet taste to it which was unique.

The bacon was fried till crispy and the sauce though sweetish, surprisingly did not put us off halfway. Everything from the sauce to the pasta to the cheese and bacon went well together. The pasta used here isn’t your usual kind of spaghetti. The texture of the noodle is slightly rough which makes it all the more appetizing. the texture also allows the cream sauce to mix better with the pasta.

Because we couldn’t get enough of it, we went back for lunch on our last day.

We ordered the same Pan Pizza & Pasta but we added another Pizza pan & also tried the risotto. The Bacon Potato Sweet Chilli was soooo good that we finished it clean but the Seafood Risotto however wasn’t to our liking.

It was too creamy and because no one else wanted to share with me, I could only finish 1/4 with the help of Reeve (even he didn’t want to eat it initially). Haha not saying that it was bad but it wasn’t to our liking. I strongly recommend the Garlic Bacon & Bacon Potato Pans as they are really really good.

They also have another joint in the Gangnam area. Search online for directions to that one. If you’re in Korea or planning to visit there, maybe you should pop by one of their joints to check it out. Let the cute and overly friendly male waiters be a bonus for you 😉

Lunch @ Lenas

28 Aug

2351-

This is not supposed to be a Food Blog but I don’t know why it is starting to look like one xD Probably its just me with good food recently. Oh and If you’re wondering why my ‘reviews’ are always good and (so far) not bad, this is because I pick my places really carefully because I wouldn’t want to end up wasting money on food that I’ll probably cook better than them at home. I really do mean what I say. If you guys would want to read a bad food review, do drop me a comment and I would gladly share my horrible experience at The Ship @ NEX when I have the time. Anyway, here’s another place to visit when your palate is feeling a bit more Atas but your legs are feeling lazy (relevant to those staying at Hougang)

Lenas is a modern American Italian Restaurant under Ministry Of Food. You can’t go wrong with food under MOF.

Went to the Hougang Mall (HGM) outlet since I just happened to think of it today because my Dad didn’t let me cook at home and insisted that we get Lunch outside. I always walk pass the area but never had the chance to try it so today is the day. Probably a good chance since my Dad would be paying //beams//.  For those interested, the Restaurant is located on the Second floor of HGM where Starbucks, Pizza Hut and all the other food places are clustered together.

This would probably be more of a Recommendation rather than a Food Review ( I hope).

First impressions are always important to me, especially when it comes to diners. I think their attitude would really make a difference to my night (good or bad) and I feel that I should receive good service from the staff especially if the joint is nowhere close to cheap. The higher your food prices, the more I expect. The staff of Lenas was friendly and polite and they provided good service (at least for the one serving us) so yay!  Quiet and Relaxing atmosphere. Wasn’t crowded when I went.

Their menu has quite a lot of variety and variation. They even have Pancakes! Haha I don’t know why I’m so amused by that. Probably because I didn’t expect it to be available on the menu. I ordered Mixed Mushroom Cream Pasta with an additional Egg yolk while my Dad ordered Smoked Duck Pasta, Aglio Olio base. My dish can be found under their vegetarian pasta menu. YES IT IS VEGETARIAN-FRIENDLY! I had a hard time choosing what to eat okay? Mmmm the cream sauce was a tad to liquidy but it didn’t dilute the sauce. Probably too much milk or something. However, I really liked how the taste of the Mushroom really came out. The whole dish really made you focus on the Mushroom taste, even the sauce had the mushroom taste (I think I’m stating the obvious) It may seem like a simple dish but I think that it was really well prepared compared to other places where the dish doesn’t really come as one. Oh and I recommend adding the egg for extra flavour. I feel that it did enhanced the flavour a little.

Dad’s Smoked Duck Pasta was really good as well. The Agli Olio wasn’t too oily and the spiciness tasted pleasant (different from the Aglio Olio pasta you can find at Pizza Hut) It went well with the smoked duck which was tender. I’m not an expert with smoked ducks and I’m lazy to ask my Dad for comments so we shall just conclude that it was well cooked overall since my Dad seemed to enjoy it very much. Oh! We made both our Mains into a meal which was kinda worth it. Drinks (iced tea or coffee) , a Small Salad & Ice Cream. The Ice Cream really reminded me of the Mr Softee one sold at 7-11 long ago. Really something sweet to end the meal ^^ My Dad also ordered a Parma Ham Pizza which was similar to the kind of pizza Skinny Pizza offers (if you know what I’m talking about…) and it tasted good. The crust was thin and crispy, cheese was well, cheese but just enough but I would prefer more. But then again, when can cheese ever be enough? I think it is really difficult to find a place that is not crazily expensive which serves genuine Parma ham or Prosciutto so both of us (my Dad especially) was really happy to see the real thing on our plate.

Prices are quite reasonable for the standard of food you get. The Total bill was $54.97 ($46.70 without GST) Recommended especially if you’re looking for a nice yet convenient restaurant around Hougang Area. You can try their other outlets around Singapore as well. For those staying at Serangoon, there is one at NEX. Unfortunately it isn’t Halal (what food there is halal besides the fast food joints anyway?) therefore I can’t bring my Best Friend there for a meal. Ah bummer…

I’ll probably go back to try their steaks, ribs or lamb chops soon.

Chock Full Of Beans

Hidden at the corner, right at the end of the two Lanes of the Shop houses at Changi Village, lies a Classy Little Cafe.

Chock Full Of Beans, known for its coffee art & fine food was our to-go cafe for today. Being not only Popular but also small, the cafe can be rather crowded especially during Lunchtime or weekends. (you don’t say) We were rather surprised that we had to be on the waiting list as it was full house this early afternoon.

The Lee Cousins~

However, we were given a seat after about 10-15 minutes. The waiting list was rather helpful as it allowed us to roam around the area rather than standing in line as the staff would call up to inform that the table is ready for us. Thumbs Up for that service!

There are both Indoor & Outdoor tables which you can choose from (provided there’s not many people). The Overall atmosphere was rather relaxing though we were seated outdoors, crammed with many other customers but that did not affect our experience there.

Cousin Daniel Looking through the Menu

The menus revolved around simple Breakfast/Lunch Food rather than main courses like Pasta or Rice but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t filling. Prices for the Mains ranged between $4 – $18 which is rather reasonable if you ask me. We finally decided on a shared Cream Of Tomato Soup ($6), Bacon & Mango Sandwich for Daniel ($12), Eggs Benedict for Jamie ($12) & an Ultimate Swiss Rosti which is the most expensive item on the menu, for myself.

My Expensive Swiss Rosti

The Cream Of Tomato was absolutely delicious. The balance between the cream & the tomato base was just right and it goes very well alone or with the baguette that comes along with it. Expected, it as also the first dish to be wiped clean. MmMmmm~

Daniel’s Mango & Bacon Sandwich was a delectable surprise. A slightly sourish tangy mango with strips of crispy & fragrant bacon in between a long fresh bun. This dish is both simple & refreshing. Gonna try this at home one day.

Jamie’s Eggs Bene was so-so. Nothing really special about it but it was well made. The eggs were really fresh and the yolk was orange in color (Y) She couldn’t finish it as it was a tad too gelat for her.

My Swiss Rosti was well done. Cooked to the right texture and thank god, no excessive oil flowing all over my plate. The Mushrooms with herb+cream went well with the Rosti besides the Sour cream. Could afford to give more sour cream though. The Cheese Sausages were really good and the cheese was runny so, yay! Although I would say that two was probably too much for me. (><) The eggs were so-so and it was a tad too bland for our liking. Probably too much milk but the consistency was fine.

We all agreed that the TOP 2 dishes for today’s meal was the Cream Of Tomato & Daniel’s Mango & Bacon Sandwich.

CYMERA_20130811_120158 DRINKS!~  Moving on to that, both of them ordered a Iced Chocolate while I ordered an Iced Honey Matcha. The Honey Matcha was really lovely and it was really thick (because I like it thick) and the honey did not overpower the Green Tea taste at all.  For all the matcha loving people, this one is for you. Might wanna get the Hot one instead though as that comes with Coffee Art.

Yes, yes… We didn’t know that the cold drinks didn’t come with the art. (Yes, idiots I know) Anyway, Chock Full Of Beans Cuppas are all (HOT BEVERAGES) decorated with cute foam art that would be sure to brighten up your day.

You can find pictures of those online…

Overall it was value for money and a nice hangout place as well. So next time you’re at Changi V and craving or something else besides Hawker Food, you know where to go 😉
